Odlar Yurdu University and Odlar Yurdu College honor the Martyrs of January 20

Odlar Yurdu University and Odlar Yurdu College commemorate the martyrs of the January 20 tragedy with deep respect and reverence, recognizing their place as symbols of heroism and the unwavering struggle of our people.

January 20 marks a pivotal moment in Azerbaijan's path to independence, embodying the great struggle for freedom and sovereignty. On the night of January 19-20, 1990, Soviet military forces launched an attack on Baku, attempting to brutally suppress the people’s desire for freedom. However, the resistance of our people, especially the courage and selflessness of the youth and citizens, created an unforgettable chapter in history. Every martyr who fell that night did not just sacrifice their life; they became a symbol of the entire nation’s yearning for liberty.

The blood shed by our martyrs in this tragic event teaches not only the students of Odlar Yurdu University and Odlar Yurdu College, but every citizen of Azerbaijan the eternal value of preserving and upholding the ideals of independence and freedom. January 20 serves as a reminder of the importance of national unity and solidarity, and shows us how crucial it is to preserve our determination for freedom, even in the face of adversity.

From this day forward, the heroic spirit of those who gave their lives will never fade. They will live on eternally in our hearts. As Odlar Yurdu University and Odlar Yurdu College, we continue our efforts to pass on the significance of this day to future generations, to keep the memory of our martyrs alive, and to remain faithful to their ideals.
