An event was held at OYU within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" on the occasion of "May 28 – Independence Day"

A joint event was organized by the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Narimanov District Organization and Odlar Yurdu University as part of the "Constitution and Sovereignty Year" to mark the “28th of May – Independence Day.”
Before the event, fresh flower wreaths were laid at the bust of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in the foyer of Odlar Yurdu University, and his precious memory was honored with respect.
The event began with the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a one-minute silence in tribute to the soul of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader, and to the martyrs who gave their lives for the integrity of our homeland.
The event was opened by Elchin Guliyev, the Chairman of YAP Nərimanov District Organization, who noted that the creation of the first democratic republic in the Muslim East by the Azerbaijani people in the early 20th century was a major historical achievement. He recalled that the tricolor flag of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, which had been abolished in 1920 after 23 months of activity, was once again raised by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev at a session of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
In the current historical context, the establishment of the Republic, the creation of democratic institutions, the declaration of the Azerbaijani language as the state language, the formation of the National Army, granting women the right to vote, and other important reforms were discussed by the organization’s chairman. He also emphasized that, under the relevant Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan People's Republic was officially celebrated at the state level in our country in 2018.
During the event, Members of the National Assembly, members of the YAP Board of Directors Azer Badamov, Hikmat Babaoghlu, the rector of Odlar Yurdu University, Professor Ahmad Valiyev, and Arif Huгmbatov, the head of the Narimanov District Council of Elders and father of the hero of the Patriotic War Azad Humbatov, shared their thoughts on the creation of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, the reforms carried out in a short period of time, the democratization of the country, the steps taken in the field of human rights, and the strengthening of our statehood.
The speakers pointed out that today, under the worthy successor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, President Ilham Aliyev, exceptional reforms have been implemented in line with the political traditions and supreme principles of the state, aimed at preserving independence, forming a democratic society in Azerbaijan, and deepening the rule of law. These reforms prove that the traditions of Azerbaijan’s statehood are still alive today.
During the event, certificates were awarded to Odlar Yurdu University students who distinguished themselves by their activity in the public and political life of the New Azerbaijan Party, and membership cards were presented to new members who had joined the party.
In the artistic part of the event, poems and songs were performed by students of Odlar Yurdu University.
