At Odlar Yurdu University, the Department of Philology and Humanities organized a scientific and artistic event dedicated to the life and legacy of the world-renowned composer, eminent musicologist, publicist, playwright, educator, and public figure — Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of modern Azerbaijani professional music and national opera.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs. Afterwards, students presented a video dedicated to Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s life and creative path, which deeply impressed the audience.
Speakers emphasized that Uzeyir bey Abdulhuseyn oglu Hajibeyli (1885–1948) was the pioneer of Azerbaijan’s professional music and national composition school. His opera *“Leyli and Majnun”* (1908) brought a fresh breath to Eastern culture, while masterpieces such as *“Arshin Mal Alan”* and *“If Not That One, Then This One”* carried the glory of Azerbaijani music far beyond the country’s borders.
The event featured speeches by the university’s administration, faculty members, guest scholars, and students. It was highlighted that Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s multifaceted creativity played a crucial role not only in shaping Azerbaijan’s musical history but also in the development of the nation’s spiritual identity and cultural consciousness.
