An International Scientific Seminar on Pancreatic Cancer Was Held at Odlar Yurdu University

Today, Odlar Yurdu University hosted another scientific seminar dedicated to one of the актуal topics in the fields of biology and medicine. The seminar was devoted to the topic “Epigenetic Mechanisms in the Pancreas: Silent Regulators of Gene Expression.”

The event featured an online presentation by Leyla Khalilova, a young researcher with international experience, a scholarship holder of the State Program of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On increasing the international competitiveness of the higher education system for 2019–2023,” and a PhD candidate at Istanbul University, Çapa Faculty of Medicine.

During the seminar, the speaker provided comprehensive information on the molecular basis of pancreatic cancer, the stages of disease progression, and modern treatment approaches. Particular attention was given to the role of epigenetic mechanisms — DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs — in regulating gene expression and their impact on the development of pancreatic cancer.

“Pancreatic cancer is one of the diseases that develops silently over a long period and is usually diagnosed at advanced stages. Therefore, studying epigenetic changes is of great importance for early diagnosis and the development of personalized treatment strategies. The main clinical symptoms include jaundice, abdominal pain radiating to the back, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, digestive disorders, and newly diagnosed diabetes. Timely evaluation of these symptoms and investigation of epigenetic changes can contribute to the development of more effective treatment approaches,” she noted.

The seminar also covered modern scientific insights into the tumor microenvironment, resectability criteria, and comprehensive treatment strategies in pancreatic cancer.

At the end of the event, participants’ questions were answered, and scientific discussions were held. Odlar Yurdu University aims to continue such international scientific collaborations and contribute to the development of the scientific potential of its students and academic staff.
