A scientific seminar was organized at Odlar Yurdu University on the occasion of Biologists’ Day. Within the framework of the seminar, one of the актуal topics in biology and medicine — “The Elixir of Youth: The Miraculous Deer Antlers (Velvet) and Blood” — was discussed with the participation of students and academic staff.
The trainer of the seminar, Senior Lecturer of Odlar Yurdu University, Sevinc Abbasova, noted in her speech that the rich heritage of folk medicine and nature-based treatment methods are of great importance for modern scientific research. She provided detailed information about the impact of biologically active substances found in deer antlers and blood on human health, particularly their role in strengthening the immune system, tissue regeneration, and anti-aging effects.
During the seminar, Sevinc Abbasova also delivered an extensive presentation on the use of deer-derived products in Eastern medicine, their chemical composition, richness in hormones and growth factors, as well as modern scientific studies in this field:
“Experimental and clinical studies conducted in this area confirm that deer antlers possess therapeutic, immunostimulatory, and metabolic effects. Antlers mainly develop in male deer, and from a medical perspective, the most valuable stage is the immature — that is, the young velvet stage. In spring, old antlers are shed and replaced by new, blood-rich, rapidly growing antlers, a process that repeats throughout life in connection with hormonal activity. Velvet antlers can grow 1.5–2 cm per day, which is a rare phenomenon in the living world. If not harvested in time, their medicinal value decreases. After collection, they are preserved through various methods such as drying, freezing, and heat treatment to maintain quality.”
The main purpose of the event was to expand students’ scientific outlook, introduce innovative approaches in biology and medicine, and promote the integration of national and international scientific knowledge. The seminar was met with great interest by participants, discussions were held, and questions were answered.
Odlar Yurdu University plans to continue organizing such scientific and educational events in the future.
